This week taught me something I wasnāt prepared for ā not as a founder, not as a human.
I delivered a project on time. On the same day, I was at the final rites of a close family member.
Even in that moment, the work was completed, uploaded, activated, and communicated properly. Because when you run a business, you learn to show up. Even on days when your heart doesnāt.
But hereās the truth I learned:
Not everyone understands the weight of professionalism. And not everyone respects the person behind the work.
š¹ Boundaries donāt break relationships ā they reveal them.
As PRDS grows, weāre moving to a prepaid model from Jan 2026. Itās a standard agency practice, nothing sudden, nothing personal ā just structure and clarity.
Announcing that one simple policy exposed everything I needed to know about a partnership I thought was long-term.
A single boundary can show you exactly:
- who respects your work
- who respects your time
- and who only respected the discount
And once you see that⦠you canāt unsee it.
š¹ Goodwill is meaningful only when itās mutual.
Iāve always delivered below market rate when I believed in the relationship. Not because I āneeded work,ā but because I understood what building trust looks like.
But goodwill without reciprocation becomes a silent burden.
This week reminded me that: Courtesy is not weakness. Flexibility is not dependency. And silence is not agreement.
We all operate with our own ethics ā offering more doesnāt mean accepting less.
š¹ Empathy is the real test of professionalism.
Business is business ā until someone is grieving. If empathy switches off in that moment, the partnership was never real.
Because no matter how big a company claims to be, culture shows in how you treat people when theyāre vulnerable.
And Iām grateful I learned this lesson early.
š¹ Growth requires clarity. And sometimes, separation.
As PRDS scales, Iām choosing:
- stable processes
- prepaid structures
- respectful partnerships
- and clients who see value, not leverage
Losing a relationship that couldnāt respect that isnāt a loss. Itās alignment.
Some chapters end because youāre done suffering. Others end because you finally grew out of them.
This one was both.
š¬ My Founder Mantra Moving Forward
(Sharing this openly because it may help another entrepreneur too.)
I gave my best. I kept my dignity. I honored my work. What leaves my life now wasnāt meant to grow with me. I close this door with respect, and I rise without looking back.
If youāre a founder, freelancer, or agency owner reading this ā protect your peace, your boundaries, and your value. Not everyone will understand your standards, and thatās okay. Youāre not meant to carry everyone with you.
Some people are lessons. Some are blessings. And some are both.
